Numerology
Numerology explores the connection between the physical world and numbers. Many who use numerology seek to gain understanding about themselves and discover hidden truths about the world by using numbers.
Numerology is the study of numbers and the application in divination and prediction. Each number is assigned a cosmic vibration and meaning. The numbers of your birthday for example are 'calculated' to give a life number, path number, soul number etc. Each number gives a meaning and is used to give answers to questions.
Numerology has been used since the earliest systems of calculation were invented.
Pythagoras, the Greek mathematician who lived from 569-470 B.C., is said by many to be the originator of much of what we call numerology today. The actual origins of numerology predate Pythagoras, the most popular being the very old Hebrew Kabbalah.
Numbers and numerical patterns always seem to hold significance to us. Ancient cultures, ancient thinkers and ancient teachers found much connection between mathematics, the physical or material world and the spiritual world.
Pythagoras, in the 6th century BC, believed that there existed a significant and intense esoteric relationship between numbers and the natural world. Many view him as the ‘father’ of “Western” numerology as we know it today. Yet, there is great speculation that he first studied the ‘Mother’ numerology system, the Chaldean one, and then made modifications to build his own.
Chaldean numerology was birthed in that part of the world historically identified as ‘the cradle of civilization’, Mesopotamia. The Sumerians who grew this first true civilization (3200-2800 B.C.) developed a soundly functional numerical system. From this early numerical system, Chaldean numerology emerged.
The Chaldeans, who believed their earliest ancestors were of divine and not human origin, settled south Mesopotamia’s chief city-state, Babylon. In time Mesopotamia became known as the Babylonian empire and ultimately, the Chaldeans took ascendency over the all Babylonia, which then came to be known as Chaldea, which was the last national identity of Mesopotamia, before its fall to the Persians.
Chaldean numerology was predicated on the concept that numbers were linked to the energy of the universe, a creative energy, always kinetic and always moving in response to the divine order of all things. All aspects of existence were then linked to numerology. The energetic properties of the numerals were used to identify, reveal and inform.
Modern science has confirmed that everything in the universe vibrates and that everything is at varying levels affected by these vibrations.
Numerology is used in astrology, alchemy, science and gaming. In astrology, the experts believed that the numbers zero through nine are ruled by a celestial body in the earth's solar system.
In the 19th and 20th century, Mrs. L. Dow Balliett and Dr. Julia Seton were responsible for the resurgence of numerology and creating an interest in numerology in the United States. Mrs. L. Dow Balliett began studying numerology once she realized each letter in a name had its own vibration.
There are usually eleven or twelve numbers used in constructing Numerology charts. 1 to 9, 11, 22 and 33. Sometimes other numbers are used too.
Brief meanings are attached to each standard number as follows:
- Individual; aggressor; self; leadership yang
- Balance; union; receptive; partnership yin
- Communication/interaction
- Creation
- Action; restlessness; life experience
- Home/family; responsibility; artistic in nature
- Thought/consciousness; spirit
- Power/sacrifice
- Highest level of changes
Other numbers are referred to as Master Numbers i.e. 11, 22, 99 etc. This study of numerology is based on the evidence of significant double-digit numbers in the Kabbalah, the I-ching, the Pythagorean numerology, the Tarot Arcana of the Eastern faiths, and the Runes of the Viking age.
11 = Instinct and intuition.
22 = Power and leadership.
33 = Teacher and mentor, knowledge.

Changing your name does not necessarily change your fate or destiny. Numerology interprets the current conditions and the person's personality. Therefore changing your name will not dramatically increase your chances for success or plummet you to failure.
