Origins of Crystal Use
The use of crystals dates back as far as there are records of history itself. They were used in Biblical times, throughout Ancient Egypt, Rome and referenced in all ancient cultures.
Crystals are made naturally from silicon and oxygen and formed over time when the earth was cooling from its volcanic origins.
Crystals form a number of geometric shapes. These geometric patterns are called lattices. There are seven different lattices. Cubic, like diamonds, is a lattice in which the crystals grow in the form of the square. Hexagonal crystals, quartz, are probably the most common and have six sides. Tetragonal crystals have a rectangular inner structure. Trigonal crystal shapes have a triangular inner structure. Orthorhombic crystals, such as topaz, are lozenge shaped. Monoclinic crystals are shaped like parallelograms. Finally, triclinic crystals have a trapezoid inner shape. They all have the same shape even if they differ in size and outer appearance. This gives them a universal physical property.
Silicon and oxygen when combined make quartz. The crystals we see of differing colours are because of impurities or other elements trapped during the formation of the crystal and gives them the appearance and variance we see today.
It also changes the frequencies and vibration of each crystal. Colour is a simple way for us to judge the frequency of the crystals when used for healing and cleansing purposes.
Crystals and precious gemstones can have significant monetary value and rulers would wear crowns or other jewelry that displayed crystals or precious gemstones. However, this was not done to show how much money they had, but for the perceived benefits of the crystals and gemstones themselves.
Certain crystals and gemstones are believed to have a protective effect against the negative thoughts of others. Other gemstones and crystals, when worn or used regularly, are believed to enhance mental and psychic abilities. The use of specific crystals and gems for physical, mental and spiritual healing is quite consistent in most cultures, dating back thousands of years.
Why have crystals and precious stones been historically used in healing? The answer may come from science itself. Crystals are commonly used in many aspects of the physical and chemical sciences because they resonate with specific vibrational frequencies.
How Crystals Work
It is a scientific fact that all matter is made up of energy, and tat any object, be it a person, plant, a plastic pipe, grain of sand or body of water has energy within it and surrounding it., Energy resonates at a particular vibration, and for each object or thing, there will be a specific vibration.
The human body is designed to function ‘properly’, and when it is doing so, each part of the body and particular emotions have their own specific vibrations. When the body or emotion is not healthy this vibration changes.
Just like watching TV, if the waves from the TV signal are not turned in properly, the picture and sound is affected. Crystals can help “tune in” the vibration for the human body as well as for other living things such as plants and animals.
This is called the Theory of Resonance. Crystals are set in their formation, so unlike the human body, they do not alter in their vibration and “get sick” or out of balance. This makes them excellent tools in assisting the body and mind as the crystals stays constant in its vibration and will therefore bring the body into line with the crystal’s “healthy” vibration.
It is important to note that as the body is designed to repair itself, it does not tune itself to the ‘wrong’ vibration. Just one of the many amazing facts about the human body which baffles science. Perhaps we can put it down to the 90% or so of our brains which we are ‘supposedly’ not using.
So in actual fact, the principle of how crystals work is extremely simple, a fact that is a great benefit to the lay-person as it makes them very simple to use on any level. Crystals have so many uses – healing on a physical and emotional level, cleansing your environment, protection, relaxation, assisting meditation, attraction (love, money, luck).
The energy level that crystals work on is extremely subtle so don’t be surprised if you feel nothing at first. As you work with crystals more and more, you will become attuned to their subtle, beautiful energy. Just being around them has a wonderful effect. To ‘tune in’ to the vibration energy of crystals takes a little work. Some people are naturally quite sensitive to its energy and feel it the instant they come into contact with their first crystal, whilst for others it takes time and effort.
We humans produce a number of different vibrational frequencies and are affected both by dissimilar as well as similar vibrations. In earlier times, someone may have discovered that certain crystals and precious gems had a positive affect on a person's health. This information seems to have been passed down, quite intact, over many generations.
Progress in medical therapy is not straight line. Discoveries that result in great improvements in medical care require a change of perception. Perhaps, crystal healing will be part of that new change of perception.
